Europalia China: De architecturale dromen van Ma Yansong
MAD ontstond pas in 2004 en het werk van het bureau behoort nu al tot de schaarse top van voorbeeldarchitectuur in China.
Als het busje ons dropt bij het magazijnachtig pand van MAD Architects in een gore buurt van Peking, dan weten we het meteen. Hier wordt met hart en ziel de woonwereld van de 21e eeuw ontworpen. Van de vijftig medewerkers die architect Ma Yansong omringen is één op drie geen Chinees. Hun internationale visie over architectuur zorgt voor een nieuwe orde. Die van de rede en het hart, van de link tussen traditie en futurisme, van het respect en de zorg voor de schaarse kostbare open ruimte op aarde. Plots wordt het duidelijk: de Chinese architectuur verlicht het bouwpad.
